Workers' contracted 8-hour shifts were extended to 12 hours without new or revised contracts being issued by the employer.
This extended shift issue has been a long-standing disagreement, leading to strike action in September following a strong vote in favor of industrial action.
Following the strikes, mediation was sought through ACAS, but this process ended without an agreement on October 29th.
The lack of agreement was attributed to the employer's refusal to engage constructively in the mediation process, despite the union halting all actions during that period.
While commitment exists from one side to find a resolution, the employer has not demonstrated a similar willingness.
Consequently, the dispute remains unresolved, and the affected workers are scheduled to resume strike action on November 26th.
Over 300 PCS members working in the Parliamentary Security Department of the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament) have announced strike dates after giving the Clerk of the House of Commons two weeks to resolve their dispute. The key issue is the reduction of annual leave entitlements, but pay has also stagnated since 2019 and the ethnicity pay gap is widening yearly. Management has consistently failed to address members’ grievances in a timely and satisfactory manner, and has also been heavy-handed in the use of disciplinary sanctions, including dismissals.
