Latest BMA Industrial Action Updates (4)

Staff working for the British Medical Association are set to strike on two additional dates, April 30th and May 2nd, due to an ongoing pay dispute.

This decision follows five days of previous strike action which involved over 450 staff members.

Management has not returned to negotiations nor advanced its initial pay offer of 2.75 per cent.

The new strike days are scheduled to occur during the Local Negotiating Committees Conference and a rescheduled Medical Students Conference.

A prior strike action on April 18th resulted in the cancellation of the Resident Doctors Conference.

Staff members remain resolute in their pursuit of an improved pay agreement.

Management's consistent stance on pay and lack of engagement have been noted as contributing factors to the ongoing issues.

There is a call for the organization to present a revised pay offer to address the reduction in staff members' real wages.

Over 450 staff members employed by the British Medical Association (BMA) are planning additional strike action concerning their pursuit of an equitable pay increase.

The fifth day of industrial action is scheduled for Saturday, April 18th, and was originally timed to overlap with the Resident Doctors Conference.

Consequently, the Resident Doctors Conference has been rescheduled.

The BMA has not re-engaged in negotiations nor has it revised its previous 2.75 per cent pay proposal.

This offer is less than the 3.5 per cent remuneration package presented to resident doctors.

The staff feel the BMA's stance is unsustainable and they intend to continue striking until a fair remuneration agreement is achieved.

Staff represented by the GMB Union are planning additional strike dates for Monday, April 6th, and Tuesday, April 7th.

These dates overlap with the beginning of a six-day strike by resident doctors.

The initial BMA staff strikes were scheduled for Friday, March 27th, and Saturday, March 28th.

The cause of the dispute for both staff and resident doctors is salary awards that have failed to keep pace with inflation, leading to a significant erosion of pay.

A recent pay offer of 2.75% made to the BMA staff was less than the recommended 3.5% for resident doctors.

Hundreds of staff members voted overwhelmingly in favor of striking, with 96% supporting the action on an 80% turnout.

Many doctor members of the BMA have publicly expressed support for the staff's actions.

Union representatives are encouraging the BMA to return to discussions with a more acceptable proposal that acknowledges the staff's worth.

Numerous staff members employed by the British Medical Association (BMA) have strongly supported taking strike action to achieve better pay following prolonged reductions in their earnings.

The union representing these employees recorded 96 per cent in favor of a walkout, based on an 80 per cent turnout.

The planned industrial action is scheduled to last for 48 hours, commencing at 00.01 on Friday, March 27th, and concluding at 23.59 on Saturday, March 28th.

Staff have experienced a nearly 17 per cent erosion in their pay since 2012 due to years of pay awards below the rate of inflation.

The decision to hold a ballot followed the failure of pay discussions at ACAS, which occurred after the BMA provided unsatisfactory proposals.

The result of the ballot indicates significant employee sentiment within the organization.

Employees expressed dissatisfaction that the proposed pay agreement did not align with inflation or address the real-terms pay cuts they have endured.

The staff members are seeking a fair pay agreement that acknowledges their work and avoids further real-terms pay reductions.
