Latest Cadent Gas Industrial Action Updates (2)

Staff members at Cadent Gas are escalating a disagreement regarding extensive weekend work by participating in a six-day walkout.

The industrial action is scheduled to occur on multiple specific dates in April, impacting staff in the North West region.

Frontline personnel report being required to work over half of all weekends consistently, which restricts time for family, rest, and vacation.

Staff are seeking a small adjustment, specifically requesting a reduction in their weekend duties by one weekend annually.

Management, who do not work on weekends, maintains that the existing schedule is appropriate, despite prior concerns raised by the workforce.

The decision to strike resulted from management's lack of serious engagement with the workers' concerns about the unsustainable rotation.

Cadent Gas first call operatives have voted to take industrial action in a bid to secure fairer rosters and a reasonable work–life balance. Workers say they are forced to work more than half of all weekends, leaving them struggling to book holidays or spend proper time with their families and children. Despite this, management – who themselves do not work weekends – have dismissed concerns and insisted the current rotas are “reasonable”. GMB members are calling for a modest and fair change: to work just one fewer Saturday and Sunday per year.
