Sunderland Care and Support (GMB) Strike Calendar

Hundreds of Sunderland care workers have voted overwhelmingly for strike action over equal pay issues. More than 300 staff at Sunderland Care and Support voted in favour of industrial action during an indicative ballot.

GMB will now open a full, legal strike ballot in the coming days. The dispute centres around an equal pay claim against Sunderland Council following the outsourcing of the service, which resulted in workers being denied access to the Local Government Pension Scheme and being paid less than male colleagues doing work of similar value.

The union also intends to ballot wider council staff for industrial action over equal pay.
