Dozens of caretakers employed by Thurrock Council have voted in favour of strike action following a dispute regarding jobs and pay. A union ballot resulted in a 96 per cent vote in favour of strike action on a 74 per cent turnout.
The workers, responsible for cleaning and maintaining housing estate properties, face proposed role downgrades and an average salary cut of £2,000 per year. The first strike day is expected to take place on Tuesday 29 September.
Dozens of caretakers employed by Thurrock Council have begun voting on strike action following a dispute over terms and conditions. The dispute arose after workers were informed their roles would be downgraded, resulting in an average annual salary reduction of £2,000.
GMB members had agreed to a trial period but are seeking to end it after reporting that they are being assigned extra duties outside their remit. The strike ballot is scheduled to close on 14 September.
