Latest Ofwat Industrial Action Updates (2)
Union members at Ofwat have voted in favour of industrial action to secure guarantees regarding jobs, terms and conditions, pay, and working conditions. In the ballot, 73.72% voted in favour of strike action and 91.3% voted in favour of action short of strike.
Staff are seeking assurances regarding their future following government announcements to abolish Ofwat and establish a new water industry regulator. The union will contact the employer and government ministers to demand commitments on conditions of employment, warning that a plan of strike action and action short of strike will be considered if these are not provided.
PCS members at Ofwat, the Water Services Regulation Authority, have moved towards a ballot for industrial action following a branch meeting on 17 September. The union is demanding the retention of civil service status and rights, no redundancies or compulsory relocations, and protection for pay, terms, and working conditions.
Unless Ofwat and Defra provide satisfactory assurances, a ballot for strike action and action short of a strike will open on 28 September and conclude on 19 October.
