Latest Royal Museums Greenwich Industrial Action Updates (1)

Members at Royal Museums Greenwich (RMG) overwhelmingly voted to reject the employer’s latest pay offer, with 92% of those voting against it.

The rejected offer proposed a cash increase of £1,668 for all staff, following a year where most personnel received no pay increase, excluding those at the London Living Wage level or slightly above.

The dispute encompasses several issues, including the museum's refusal to accredit to the London Living Wage.

Staff are also opposing proposed changes to practices that would require front-of-house personnel to use annual leave for museum closure days during Christmas.

Other concerns involve requests for paid breaks for security personnel, extra pay for bank holiday work, issues regarding fixed-term contracts, an unclear system for pay progression, and a lack of a dedicated budget for training and development.

Ninety percent of members who rejected the offer indicated a readiness to take industrial action if a resolution is not found.

The ballot outcome highlights staff dissatisfaction with how workplace matters have been managed at the museum.

There is a call for RMG to engage constructively with staff to address the concerns and improve industrial relations.
