England Collages (UCU) Strike Calendar

Members of a union at all 25 colleges are scheduled to strike on Wednesday, January 14th, Thursday, January 15th, and Friday, January 16th.

Staff participating in the action will maintain picket lines on all three strike days, and there will be a national rally in Westminster on Friday, January 16th.

Union members at some other colleges have resolved their disputes after securing pay increases up to 8.7%.

The union, along with several other unions, is advocating for a New Deal for Further Education, which includes demands for pay parity with schoolteachers, national workload agreements, and a binding national bargaining framework.

The union is urging employers to collaborate on implementing significant sectoral bargaining to prevent ongoing strike ballots and disruption in further education.

An employer body recommended a 4% pay uplift, but colleges are not obligated to follow this suggestion, and many have not in past pay negotiations.

The average college teacher earns £9,000 less than a teacher in schools.

It is stated that industrial action is a final option for members, and there is still time for colleges to present fair offers to address the pay discrepancy between school and college educators.
