Health visitors employed at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board have been engaged in continuous strike action since February over a dispute regarding pay banding and job grading. The union states that workers are losing approximately £9,000 per year due to being placed on incorrect pay bands.
An open letter has been published calling on the Welsh government to resolve the long-running dispute in line with pre-election commitments. Striking staff are holding a demonstration at the Senedd in Cardiff.
Health visitors employed by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board have rejected a one-off pay offer in an ongoing dispute over pay banding and salary discrepancies. The union reports that staff are underpaid by up to £9,000 per year and have been taking strike action since February.
The employer offered a one-off taxable payment of just over £5,000, which 99 per cent of voting health visitors rejected. The dispute centers on calls for the health board to honour internal job evaluations and upgrade staff to the appropriate pay band.
Health visitors at the Cwm Taf health board have been on strike since February over the refusal of the board to honour their own job evaluation and grading that has seen every health visitor lose up to £9000 a year in pay. New FoI data obtained by Unite now shows the critical impact the strikes are having on families in south Wales. The data shows that nearly 24,000 health visitor appointments were due across March, April and May 2026. Only just over 900 of those visits were completed. Meanwhile, across Bridgend council area, health visitor safeguarding referrals are at just 17 per cent of the level they were at last year.
