Latest First Bus Doncaster Industrial Action Updates (5)
Strike action by drivers in Doncaster working for First South Yorkshire has been resolved after Unite members voted to accept a vastly improved pay offer. Around 230 drivers had taken several days of strike action as they were seeking pay parity with Sheffield-based drivers at the same company.
Following negotiations, Doncaster drivers have now voted to accept a new pay deal that puts them on an equal footing with their Sheffield counterparts, for example top rate drivers will see pay go up from £14.15 an hour to £15.60 immediately, followed by another pay rise to £16.10 on 31 August. There is also a commitment that drivers will receive the same percentage increase pay offer as Sheffield drivers by 5 April next year.
Industrial action by around 230 bus drivers at First South Yorkshire has been suspended, following negotiations between Unite, conciliatory service Acas and the company. Doncaster drivers were set to walk out next week, from Wednesday (6 May) in an ongoing pay dispute where they were seeking pay parity with Sheffield-based workers at the same bus company. However, all further strike action now been halted to allow the drivers to vote on a new offer.
A planned strike this Friday (1 May) by around 230 bus drivers in Doncaster has been stopped to allow for talks between Unite, the employer First South Yorkshire and conciliatory service Acas. The Unite members have been taking industrial action, as they have asked for pay parity with drivers at the same company who drive routes in Sheffield. Drivers are still walking out tomorrow (29 April) and may also strike on 6 May depending on the outcome of the talks.
There will be further disruption to bus services in Doncaster, as First South Yorkshire workers have escalated industrial action over pay. The drivers, members of Unite, have turned down a pay offer from their employer as this does not give them pay parity with those doing the same job at First in Sheffield, just over 20 miles away. Further strike action will now take place on 14 and 17 April, alongside the already-announced dates of 22 and 24 April. Previous industrial action on 28 and 30 March and yesterday (7 April) caused major disruption to bus services in and out of Doncaster city centre and the surrounding areas, with many cancelled or running a limited service.
Bus services in Doncaster will be disrupted over the coming weeks, as over 230 drivers have overwhelmingly voted to take industrial action over pay. Doncaster drivers at First South Yorkshire, part of First Group, have rejected an offer from their employer as this does not give them pay parity with those doing the same job at First in Sheffield, just over 20 miles away.
Strikes will take place on 28 and 30 March and 7, 22 and 24 April. Some of these dates coincide with the Easter break as well as events at Doncaster Racecourse including the opener of the British flat racing season the William Hill Lincoln Handicap on 28 March.
