NHS Workers (UNITE) Strike Calendar

Security guards at Guy’s and St Thomas’ have ended their long running dispute after Unite, the UK’s leading union, secured a pay uplift worth £3,000. The more than 30 workers, who began a campaign of industrial action in January, secured an increase in their pay banding from three to four. The uplift means that annual wages will increase by £3,000 over the next two and a half years for security guards at the central London NHS trust.

Members of Unite working in a variety of roles at Barts, and at outsourcing company Synergy, have been undertaking industrial action since last year to get the trust to pay them a lump-sum payment for working during the pandemic. Following significant strikes and a campaign to put pressure on the Barts board, Unite has now secured a new offer from the trust that they will be balloting their members on in the coming days. Should Unite’s members accept the new offer, it would draw industrial action to a close.

Hundreds of workers at Barts NHS Trust and contractor Synergy are embarking on a new wave of strike action over the failure of their employer to pay a lump sum payment worth over £1,600.

Unite’s members at the time worked for another outsourcing company Serco before transferring back into the NHS just after the imposed deadline for staff to receive the payment. So far NHS bosses, locally at the trust and at NHS England, have rejected their demands and refused to ask the treasury for additional funding to cover the payment.

Over 1,000 workers at Barts Health NHS Trust are in dispute over pay, safe staffing levels, bank rates and lump-sum payments. Workers are experiencing staff shortages, which have reached such a level that they risk the health of patients and threaten staff welfare.

NHS and Synergy staff are based at the following hospitals: Mile End; Newham University; St Bartholomews; Royal London; Whipps Cross. Synergy staff will be taking strike action on the following dates: 18 – 26 December 2023. NHS Trust staff in facilities will be striking on the following dates: 18 – 22 December; 25-26 December 2023. NHS staff from the East and South East London pathology partnership employed by Barts Trust will be joining their colleagues on 21 and 22 December.
