Unite has submitted a formal complaint to the Department for the Economy's employment agency inspectorate regarding the alleged illegal use of agency workers during a strike at Pilgrim Europe's Enniskillen factory.
Workers at the site are entering their sixth week of strike action in pursuit of a fair pay increase and an end to a two-tier system of paid breaks.
The union has raised concerns that an employment agency has advertised positions to cover work normally carried out by striking employees, which is prohibited under employment agency regulations in Northern Ireland.
Workers at the Pilgrims Europe site in Enniskillen have entered their fifth week of strike action in an ongoing pay dispute. The industrial action has significantly affected production of products including Fridge Raiders, Richmond sausages, and Mr Brain's pork faggots. A union survey highlighted financial hardship among staff, noting that low wage rates have forced many employees to cut back on food, work overtime or second jobs, and borrow money.
Unite has announced that approximately 130 workers at the Pilgrims Europe production facility in Enniskillen will begin all-out continuous strike action starting Wednesday 2 September. This marks an escalation in an ongoing dispute and follows three weeks of previous strikes.
The dispute centres on pay and shift break conditions, with workers seeking a pay increase and an end to morning shift workers being denied fully paid breaks. The Enniskillen site produces several major food brands, including Fridge Raiders, Richmond Sausages, and Mr Brains Pork Faggots.
