Latest Sodexo Industrial Action Updates (4)

PCS members working in Sodexo are on strike from today (4) until 17 June, after members voted 100% for strike action to stop compulsory redundancies. The striking members are employed by outsourcing company Sodexo as receptionists, cleaners, porters and kitchen staff, providing essential services in Erskine House, the UK Government hub building which is home to multiple departments including HMRC, Cabinet Office and Northern Ireland Office and Carne House in Belfast.

Sodexo is a multinational outsourcing company which reported profits in the region of £679 million. Yet, to “align with the financial position of the contract” Sodexo has decided to cut 140-160 hours, meaning up to four staff, who are on or just above the national minimum wage, are facing compulsory redundancy.

A long-running dispute involving Sodexo workers at the Sullom Voe oil and gas terminal in the Shetland islands is over after Unite members overwhelmingly backed an improved pay offer. The two year pay deal successfully negotiated by Unite was achieved after industrial action by around 30 Sodexo members. The terminal workers will receive a four per cent increase backdated to April 2025 along with a matching increase for the next year which will come into effect in April 2026.

The pay award includes the retention of an attendance bonus worth up to £1,000 for each year, and the workers will receive a one-off cost of living payment worth up to £1,225 for each worker in 2025 based on hours worked. The workers set to benefit from the pay deal perform various roles including mechanics, cleaners, plant operators, and electricians.

Sullom Voe terminal workers step up industrial action today (Wednesday 28 January) in an escalating pay dispute with Sodexo. Around 30 Unite members at Sodexo resume 24-hour strike action in a long-running pay dispute after workers overwhelmingly rejected an unacceptable two-year pay offer.

Unite can confirm that Sodexo workers resumed 24-hour strike action today (Wednesday 7 January) as part of an escalating pay dispute with the company. Around 30 members performing various roles including mechanics, cleaners, plant operators and electricians are set to take part in a series of stoppages on 7, 12, 14, 21, and 28 January. Unite members have rejected an unacceptable two-year pay offer by Sodexo which falls short of the workers’ pay aspirations after unanimously backing strike action. In 2024, Sodexo Remote Sites Scotland posted profits after tax amounting to £593,000.
