Unite can confirm that strike action involving 430 Stagecoach West Scotland drivers is over after the drivers overwhelmingly accepted an 18-month pay deal worth 11.5 per cent on basic pay. The pay deal amounts to an increase backdated to January which takes basic hourly pay from £13 per hour to £14 in June this year, and then from February 2026 the rate will be lifted to £14.50 until July 2026 when pay negotiations will be renewed.
Members of the Unite union were set to walk out for seven days over a three-week period in May in a dispute over pay. The union had threatened legal action after it emerged the firm had cancelled drivers' holiday dates during the planned strike. However, that has now been withdrawn and the two sides are set to get back round the table for talks.
Unite members voted by 98 per cent to undertake industrial action on a high turnout following the rejection of an “unacceptable” four per cent pay offer by Stagecoach West Scotland Unite has said despite ongoing talks with the company a significantly improved pay offer has not been put to the drivers who operate out of several depots in Ayr, Arran, Ardrossan, Dumfries, Kilmarnock and Stranraer.
Unite believes the current offer would still leave the workers one of the poorest paid across Stagecoach’s UK operations. Unite is highlighting that the company can afford to make an increased offer after its profit after tax increased to £2.99m in 2024 up from £1.3m in 2023. The company’s revenues also increased to £59.7m up from £50.9m over the same period.
